New edition of your ‘Federation’ magazine out now

29 April 2024

The latest bumper edition of the West Midlands Police Federation magazine is out now and available to download.

It’s full of news and views from your branch, including a focus on the investigation into the brutal murder of Bailey Atkinson.

Detective Sergeant Andy Jelfs, one of the lead investigators, described it as one of the most complex cases he’s worked on, while branch chair Rich Cooke renewed his calls for a ban on the types of weapons used in the attack on Bailey.

Rich reacts to the latest Pay and Morale Survey, calling for the Government formed after the General Election to act on the results.

There are renewed calls for lengthy conduct investigations to be speeded up, and concerns over custody blocks being managed by one sergeant.

Read the amazing story of how a West Midlands Police staff member, supported by her sergeant, coordinated the response to save an elderly man who was sleeping rough in his car in the depths of winter.

The Force’s multi-faith lead, Khadija Sulaiman, reflects on her first year in the role.

Hear from Sergeant Liam Hemmings, who has successfully pushed for members to have access to a prostate cancer test after his dad and the husband of a team member were diagnosed with the disease.

Meet the members building community relations through cricket, and the member who ran the London Marathon in memory of his close friend.

We look ahead to the New York Half Marathon, which will include a team of runners from the Force raising money and awareness for Joining Against Cancer in Kids.

And there’s a focus on the first Special in the West Midlands to carry a Taser.

It’s all in the latest edition of Federation, the magazine of the West Midlands Police Federation, which is out now.
