Brave officer pursued armed robbers

Today marks the anniversary of the death of West Midlands PC Gavin Carlton.

Gavin tragically died on 19 December 1988 when his car crashed after it was shot at as he pursued two armed robbers. A gunman then approached and shot him at point blank range.

The 29-year-old officer was posthumously awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Brave Conduct.
