Is PPE impacting your physical health?

The Federation’s health and safety lead is asking members to complete a short survey centred around the relationship between chronic pain and the way officers carry their Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Deano Walker is encouraging officers to take part in the questionnaire on behalf of former detective and Fed member Tristram Oliver, who has launched the survey as part of a master’s degree he is currently completing.
The purpose of the survey is to explore the levels of pain suffered by frontline officers and how this relates to how they carry their PPE and body armour.
“Not only is it important that we support a former Fed member and colleague, but in this instance, the results from this survey could actually give us a really useful insight as to how carrying PPE is impacting the physical health of our officers,” said Deano.
“It might actually help to shape any changes we need to make in the future and make informed choices about how PPE affects officers.”
The survey is part of Tristram’s final year dissertation and will contribute towards a Master’s in Chiropractic.
The survey will be live until Wednesday 31 May.
