West Midlands Police Federation has remembered fallen colleague DC Mick Swindells who was stabbed to death 19 years ago today.
Mick was killed on 21 May 2004 in Birmingham as he attempted to arrest a violent offender who had earlier threatened members of the public with a knife.
The 44-year-old had served with the Force for 14 years after a military career which saw him rise to the rank of lance corporal in the Royal Engineers.
Mick was awarded the Queen's Gallantry Medal posthumously and in 2008 the Police Memorial Trust erected a stone memorial to him at the location of the incident on a towpath of the Tame Valley Canal underneath Gravelly Hill Interchange in Aston.
