West Midlands Police Federation today remembers PC Joseph (Joe) O’Brien.
Joe died on 14 November 1982 after being hit by a car while he was directing traffic in a road race. He was 48 and had been a police officer for 20 years, spending most of his time as a beat officer in the Ernesford Grange and Binley areas of Coventry.
His legacy continued in the form of charity events in his name, including an annual run which raised thousands of pounds for good causes, and with a road named after him, Joe O’Brien Close, opposite Willenhall (Chace Avenue) Police Station in Coventry.
