The Police Federation’s annual pay and morale survey has now been launched, and West Midlands branch chair Rich Cooke is urging members to “make their views known”.
The survey has been combined for the first time with the demand, capacity and welfare survey and aims to gain the views from officers on the frontline.
It covers issues including pay, morale and wellbeing, with the results being used to support the Police Federation’s campaign for fairer pay for officers.
Rich said: “I know how frustrated colleagues are at present having gone through a summer of disruption and yet another decrease in of our real pay. Many may well say ‘surely you should know how we feel without the need for yet more surveys?’ But the Fed does need current empirical evidence from our members, now more than ever, to fight on their behalf. It takes time and effort to complete but it can be a big help to the likes of me putting together cohesive arguments that can gain traction with influential people, media commentators and the public.
“We use the findings as part of our campaign for better pay and conditions, and for reform of the pay system. The more members who complete the survey, the stronger our voice will be, so please make your views known.”
Police Federation national chair Steve Hartshorn added: “We greatly appreciate members taking the time to support the service by filling in this survey, the evidence and insights from the findings will be used to inform our policies and direction going forward. Your opinion matters to us, we are listening.
“The survey is open until October 3, and will ask questions around your feelings on workload, demand, wellbeing, welfare and pay. I would urge you not to miss out. Have your say.”
Members will receive a link to the survey directly.
