20 September 2021
West Midlands Police Federation members are being urged to get involved in a conference highlighting the advances and best practice in policing our roads.
The Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) Roads Policing Conference 2021, a virtual event, is open to Federation members and workplace representatives for the first time - and organisers are keen to get as many as possible to take part.
Run along similar lines to the annual conference earlier this year, members who register to attend but cannot make it will be able to catch up via a special on-demand service, available for 30 days after the Wednesday 29 September event.
Tim Rogers, deputy secretary of West Midlands Police Federation and national Federation lead for pursuits and driver training, will be addressing the conference with an update on changes to legislation to better protect police drivers legally.
West Midlands Police Federation branch chair Jon Nott said: “The annual conference was held online in the summer and was a great success and I fully expect the Roads Policing Conference to be just as good.
“I would encourage our members to register and attend because these conferences cover such a wide range of topics and there is always something new and interesting going on.
“It’s also a great way to keep up to date with new regulations and changing legislation and gives officers the space and opportunity to share experiences, discuss best practice and speak frankly about a key aspect of the service.”
The timetable features keynote speeches from national Police Federation representatives and officials, live panel discussions and Q & As on critical areas of focus for roads policing, continuing professional development certified sessions on the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill and a live operational roads policing exercise.
The winner of the PFEW Outstanding Contribution to Roads Policing Award will also be announced during the conference.
The event will again be hosted by talkRADIO presenter Ian Collins and will feature addresses from national chair Jon Apter, national roads policing lead Gemma Fox, policing minister Kit Malthouse and shadow policing minister Sarah Jones.
