Provider of the GIS travel insurance

The travel insurance offered under the West Midlands Police Federation Group Insurance Scheme is now provided by Aviva.

This change came into effect on the renewal of the scheme on 1 April 2021.

We advise members to check the new travel policy documents so they are fully aware of the cover provided.

The change applies to both serving and retired officers, as well as police staff who pay for the stand-alone travel scheme.

Please note the following terms in relation to pre-existing medical conditions:

All pre-existing medical conditions are covered as long as the person insured does not meet the exclusions as shown below (there is no medical screening line for the Aviva policy):

This policy will not cover you for any claims arising from pre-existing medical conditions as set out below;

1. a) Any claims made under the cancellation, curtailment or change of itinerary and/or medical and emergency travel expenses section of this policy as a result of any pre-existing medical condition where a Qualified Medical Practitioner has not permitted the insured person to travel.
2. b) Any claims under the cancellation, curtailment or change of itinerary section of this policy as a result of any pre-existing medical condition where the insured person is on a waiting list for in-patient treatment. 
3. c) Any claims made under the cancellation, curtailment or change of itinerary and/or medical & emergency travel expenses section of this policy where you are travelling for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment abroad. 
4. d) Any claims made under the cancellation, curtailment or change of itinerary and/or medical & emergency travel expenses section of this policy where you have been given a terminal prognosis.
5. e) Purchase of any prescription medicines relating to a pre-existing condition.
6. f) If an insured person or close relative has suffered a pre-existing medical condition that you could have reasonably foreseen would have given rise to a cancellation or curtailment or change of itinerary claim under the cancellation, curtailment or change of itinerary section of this policy.
