Chair visits officers’ Commonwealth Games accommodation

16 December 2020

Officers who are deployed to Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games will be put up in ‘fantastic’ rooms, according to the chair of West Midlands Police Federation.

Jon Nott has visited one of the accommodation venues that will be used to house officers on Mutual Aid deployment along with a team from Operation Unity, the name given to the planning of the police response to the games which will come to the city in summer 2022.

“It was pleasing to see that the Force is considering the welfare of officers who will be deployed to the games. The site had Wi-Fi available throughout, a gym, a coffee shop, communal areas both inside and out as well as outdoor space where officers can exercise if they wanted to,” says Jon.

“It is a secure venue where officers will be able to relax and unwind when not deployed to the games. There has also been thought put into the catering at the site with a varied menu being planned for the canteen to ensure there should be lots of different choices across the two weeks of the event.”

After the tour of the accommodation, Jon attended the Commonwealth Games board meeting where the progress for the police response planning was discussed.

Plans are in place for a survey to be sent out to all officers seeking their views on what would be important to them if they were part of the mutual aid deployment.
