‘Devastating’ loss of Thames Valley PC

West Midlands Police Federation deputy secretary Tim Rogers has extended his sympathy to the family of a Thames Valley Police officer who died on duty last night.
 
PC Andrew Harper was allegedly hit by a car when attending a report of a burglary in Sulhamstead, Berkshire, dragged under the vehicle for a distance and then struck by another car. The incident happened at around 11.30pm on Thursday.
 
“This is a terrible tragedy,” says Tim, “I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to PC Harper’s family and friends as well as his colleagues within the Force.
 
“Incidents such as this remind us all of the terrible dangers police officers face as they go about their duties protecting the public. PC Harper acted in the finest traditions of British policing, putting his life on the line to serve his community. It is absolutely devastating that he has paid the ultimate price in doing so.”
 
Ten males, aged 13 to 30, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are being held in custody in police stations in the Thames Valley area.
 
PC Harper’s death comes just days after a Met PC was attacked with a machete and West Midlands PC Gareth Phillips was run over by a suspected car thief.
