Pay and morale survey: members urged to take part

6 November 2023

West Midlands Police Federation deputy chair Jase Dooley is urging members to make their voices heard by taking part in this year’s pay and morale survey.

Jase said that the more members who complete the survey the stronger the Police Federation of England and Wales’s position will be when campaigning for improved pay and conditions.

He said: “It’s really important that members complete the survey because in years gone by we haven’t had the turn-out that we need.

“As a Federation, we need the results to take things forward and work on behalf of members.

“The higher the turn-out the more it helps us to feed back into the Force and the Government about what’s going on and the general feelings in policing.

“It’s just a few minutes out of members’ time but it gives us a massive weight for negotiation going forward. It’s a chance for us to show a united front because we’re stronger together.”

The survey is open until Monday 11 December.

Last year’s survey found that 86 per cent of West Midlands Police respondents were dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with their pay, while 18 per cent reported never or almost never having enough money to cover all their essentials.

Some 55 per cent of respondents said their morale was low or very low, with 88 per cent saying that morale within the Force was low or very low.

And 14 per cent said they intended to resign from the service in the next two years, with morale, how the police are treated by the Government and pay the main reasons.

Members will be sent full details of how to take part in the survey.
