The Police Federation’s co-Welsh leads have sent a good luck message to the members in Wales who have been nominated for a national bravery award.
Leigh Godfrey and Zac Mader said they were ‘incredibly proud’ of the officers representing each of the four Forces in Wales.
They said: “Police officers face challenging situations and perform remarkable acts of bravery in extreme situations, running towards danger to protect the public.
“We’re incredibly proud to have 11 officers from Wales who have been recognised for their heroic actions with a nomination at this year’s bravery awards.
“Their stories are humbling and inspiring, and they are all deserving of their nominations.
Awards
“We wish them every success at the awards.”
The nominees include officers from Gwent and South Wales who worked together to track down a knife attacker in Nelson, Caerphilly.
Sergeant Geraint Hopkins, PC Ashley Joseph, and an anonymous officer from Gwent Police, and South Wales Police officers PC James Ruijs and PC Luke Francis risked their own safety to try to find the attacker in a burning flat before rescuing his neighbours.
Dyfed Powys Police Federation member PC Rhodri Jones has been nominated for rescuing a woman and her dog after they had fallen 20 feet down the Caban Coch Dam in the Elan Valley.
Rhodri managed to reach the woman and her dog, who were trapped on a small platform with a 100-ft drop below them, and pull them to safety using a throwline.
Loaded gun
And North Wales Police Federation is represented by Sergeant Dylan Thomas, PC Rachael Roberts, PC Rob Burgess, PC Dion Hughes, and PC Rob Williamson.
The unarmed team of officers was called to an address in Holyhead in April last year where they were faced with an aggressive man with a loaded gun who was putting his vulnerable mother’s life at risk.
They deployed Taser to initially disarm the man and, after he crawled into a bedroom, detained and arrested him.
This year’s National Police Bravery Awards, which are organised by the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW), take place in London on Thursday (11 July).
