Federation heading to Plaid Cymru conference

22 March 2022

Hard on the heels of a visit to the Welsh Labour Party’s annual conference earlier this month, the Federation’s Welsh lead will on Friday be at the Plaid Cymru conference.

Nicky Ryan will be joined at the conference, which is being held at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, by Calum Macleod, a Welsh regional representative on the Police Federation of England and Wales National Board and head of criminal claims.

“Party conferences provide us with the ideal opportunity to meet with politicians and other stakeholders,” says Nicky, “Through these events, we can, at last, see people face to face, discuss the issues facing police officers right now and talk about the work the Federation is doing.

“At the Welsh Labour Party conference, we were able to meet three of the four Police and Crime Commissioners for Wales and a number of politicians and also arranged future meetings with others.

“I am hoping that Calum and I can build on the relationships we have already formed with those who make the decisions that can have such an impact on policing and police officers.”

Nicky and Calum have already arranged to meet Liz Saville-Roberts, leader of Plaid Cymru in Westminster, Rhys ab Owen, the Plaid Cymru spokesperson for justice in the Senedd, Ben Lake, the MP for Ceridigion, and Dafydd Llywelyn, the Dyfed Powys Police and Crime Commissioner, during conference.

Since taking up her post in April 2021, Nicky, a former secretary of the Gwent Police Federation branch, has held a series of online meetings with Members of the Senedd.
