AGMs provide chance to meet workplace reps

31 January 2022

Federation Welsh lead Nicky Ryan and regional representative for Wales Calum Macleod have met colleagues at the Gwent and South Wales Police Federation branch AGMs.

Nicky, who signed into the Gwent AGM, said it was important to attend such meetings as the vital feedback from Fed reps on the views of members gave her an invaluable insight ahead of the meetings with politicians and decision-makers she carries out as part of her role.

Speaking after the hybrid meeting, Nicky, a former Gwent branch secretary, said: “There were lots of interesting issues discussed and it was interesting to see the issues Gwent Police Federation faces around resourcing, fairness and dealing with the large influx of new recruits whether via the Government uplift programme or alternative routes.

“It was also great to virtually meet the new members on the Gwent branch council and lovely to see those reps who returned to their positions.

“It was really important to share the details of the huge amount of work that is going on nationally to progress issues that affect our members in Gwent and across Wales.

“I am looking forward to being able to join the Dyfed Powys Police Federation meeting next week so I can update their reps and get their views which I find is really useful when I meet politicians.”

Calum, Region 7 (Wales) representative and head of criminal claims at the national Police Federation, was able to sign in to the South Wales branch meeting.

He said: “I was pleased to be given the opportunity to meet with the new branch council in South Wales.

“It is always good to update new members on the national work being undertaken by the Police Federation and to hear the real life issues affecting the membership on a day to day basis.

“The new members displayed a great deal of enthusiasm to make a positive difference for the membership locally and nationally.”
