About us

The Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) established its Welsh Affairs to ensure that its members were given a strong and consistent voice in Wales.

The committee provides an effective link between PFEW, the Welsh Parliament (Senedd Cymru), Members of the Senedd (MS) and the chief officers and Police and Crime Commissioners in the four Welsh forces – Dyfed Powys, Gwent, North Wales and South Wales. It also liaises with a range of devolved and non-devolved public bodies, representing Federation members’ views.

Nicky Ryan, a former secretary of Gwent Police Federation, is the Federation’s Welsh lead and chairs meetings of the Welsh Affairs.

Her remit includes everything from the pandemic to mental health and helping shape new legislation. Nicky and the committee aim to influence policy-makers and police leaders on the issues that matter to Federation members, constables, sergeants, inspectors and chief inspectors serving the communities of Wales.

The committee members include representatives from the four Welsh Federation branches and members of the Federation’s National Board. The committee is also assisted by the Superintendents’ Association, and has internal and external communication support as well as a political adviser for Welsh Parliament issues.
