Federation’s Welsh lead attends high-profile NARPO conference

The Welsh lead of the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) has emphasised the importance of keeping the relationship between the staff association and the National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO) strong.

Nicky Ryan was speaking after attending NARPO’s annual conference which was held in Llandudno on Friday.

“Being at this event really brought home to me the importance of working together, updating and collaborating with each other on the work we do,” said Nicky.

“We may be different organisations, but we represent our members on so many of the same matters – from legislation to healthcare to the way policing is viewed by the wider public.

“It is always better to collaborate than stand alone, and ultimately it secures a better service for both our members, and the members of NARPO.”

Nicky attended alongside national Federation chair John Apter, who was also one of the keynote speakers and started his speech by greeting his audience in Welsh which was very well received.

Other speakers included national police chaplain Canon David Wilbraham and Sir Hugh Orde from the UK Police Memorial.

Nicky was in North Wales all last week for the first in person North Wales Police Federation Branch Council meeting on Tuesday. She then attended the regional meeting of all four Welsh branches on Wednesday morning, and the Welsh Affairs Sub-Committee (WASC) meeting on Wednesday afternoon alongside North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Andrew Dunbobbin.

As part of her role with WASC, Nicky met with North Wales Chief Constable Carl Foulkes on Thursday morning before attending the NARPO dinner that evening and conference the following day.
