An officer who has shown real grit and compassion to support colleagues through some of their darkest times has been named Federation Rep of the Year at the Surrey Police Federation Recognition Awards 2025.
Sgt Zoe Bradstreet has been a Surrey Police Federation workplace Rep for five years, providing guidance and support to colleagues at some of the most difficult points in their careers.
She is particularly passionate about helping members who are going through misconduct proceedings, often being on-call at night and helping at short notice.
Zoe said: “I became a Fed Rep because I had received support from the Federation myself and I wanted to pay it back. I also wanted to support police officers going through what is, nine times out of 10, a pretty hideous experience when they’re facing misconduct procedures – they need to be looked after properly and the process should be fair.”
She continued: “I have received a lot of positive feedback from people I've supported. One officer recently bought me a bouquet of flowers and sent me a lovely card of thanks. In the midst of chaos, I hope I’m able to make things clearer and explain things, and help officers through an incredibly challenging situation. It's incredibly rewarding to know you've made a positive impact on somebody.”
Zoe is just a few months away from retirement, after a long career working in a variety of roles including frontline neighbourhood policing, response work, investigations and as a custody sergeant.
Her wealth of experience makes her well-placed to challenge senior leaders on policing Regs and work with key stakeholders to promote Surrey Police Federation.
She said: “Over the years, I have developed a very good working relationship with Professional Standards and can therefore perhaps influence their decision-making. What you see is what you get with me, I don't hold back, but on the same token I don't hide things.”
Federation colleagues have described Zoe as approachable, kind and generous with her time. She is always willing to help new Reps, is a true advocate for officers’ wellbeing, and upholds extremely high standards.
When Zoe heard she had been named Surrey Police Federation’s Rep of the Year, she said: “I'm super chuffed to have been recognised – I feel quite humble that people think I’m worthy of being the Fed Rep of the Year. The role is not paid and it’s done mostly in our own time, but it's worth it to get the right result for officers. So it's a lovely feeling to be recognised; it’s the icing on the cake for my policing career.”
Surrey Police Federation Chair Darren Pemble said: “Zoe has a real passion and pride for the Federation’s work, and is a shining example of a great Fed Rep. It can be exhausting managing a busy day job and then volunteering to do extra work, but Zoe has always been there for her colleagues.
“She has helped steer the Fed branch through recent years, and is a key member of our team. She will be very much missed when she retires. But before then, it’s great to recognise Zoe for her outstanding contribution.”
As the winner of a Surrey Police Federation Recognition Award, Zoe will attend a prestigious Awards Ceremony on 4 December.
