Police Pensions - Maternity /Parental and part time issues
PFEW are looking at the maternity/part time/career break picture in terms of contingent decisions and pension buyback as those areas are currently not covered by the contingent decision process.
The maternity issue is a wider one and there are issues with officers who paid pension for unpaid periods of all forms of parental leave, but particularly maternity leave not having that recorded, especially if they transferred forces. There is also the ongoing issue of forces not informing officers of the ability to purchase pension for periods of unpaid parental leave when they returned to work.
We would encourage you to raise any concerns you have via the link and complete the online form so the data can be collated and taken forward to the NPCC and Home Office.

National Police Healthcare Scheme
Members of Surrey Police Federation and police staff can now get access to the benefits of private healthcare for as little as £16 per month*.
The National Police Healthcare Scheme aims to cover the cost of hospitalisation and specialist medical fees, for treatment for acute medical conditions, both as an in-patient and out-patient. But the scheme also covers the cost of outpatient physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic and acupuncture treatment up to £200 per course.
Police officers and staff who sign up get the first three months free and the first year is free for student officers.
This scheme gives members the opportunity to have the benefits of private healthcare and therefore quicker access to the treatment they need. I would urge all members to take a closer look at what the scheme. NEW ! ! ! Payment comes out of salary.
