Back on the Beat with the Surrey Police Federation Chair Darren Pemble

1 August 2024

Tuesday this week I was invited to join the NPT response team at Waverley where I was welcomed by the team on D rota, writes Surrey Police Federation Chair Darren Pemble.

It was good to get back into my uniform.

I was able to speak with a number of officers on the West who are doing great work in the local community going above and beyond every day.

I was also let loose onto the Surrey streets... this gave me the opportunity to patrol in the Guildford area of West Surrey.

It was great to be able to respond to the many calls that we face as a Force everyday where we do our best to help the Surrey public. We dealt with a drunk driver, a domestic incident & a child protection matter just in one traffic stop as well as a number of drunk & disorderly incidents.

We even had to provide first aid where the bandaging was first class helping a male who had a significant injury to his hand.

It was also good to be there alongside colleagues doing a tough job.

I was able to get around to Camberley, Woking, Guildford & Waverley police stations/offices where I saw first-hand the hard-working officers of Surrey doing a great job in difficult circumstances.

Demand is greater than the resources we have but officers are still responding & running towards danger to help the Surrey public.

I was able to thank the officers for their hard work and take a few minutes of their time to discuss the recent pay award & how we can make policing in Surrey better for them.

An increase in the South East allowance was discussed as well as duty time for exercise.

I hope to be out on North and East divisions soon so look forward to seeing more great people – and great work being carried out for the communities of Surrey.
