A Christmas and New Year message from Surrey Police Federation Chair Darren Pemble

23 December 2024

The festive season is upon us again and we want to wish our members and everyone connected to policing a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We wave goodbye to 2024 where we again faced a challenging year in policing. You the members have stood strong through the difficult times with the summer riots as well as the NX121 trial which resonated for many the difficulties we face and how accountable we are as police officers.

We have full prisons and the media continue to criticise us without understanding the challenging arena we work in.
As a Force we have seen the magnificent work you all do including the recent investigation and conviction following the death of Sara Sharif in Woking.

Policing is a job like no other, we run towards danger when others are running away and we do the best we can with little thanks and recognition.

Here at Surrey Police Federation, we appreciate that there are a good number of our membership who will be representing the Force over the festive period protecting all who live and visit Surrey.

The dedication you all show is a testament to your character and professionalism and should be recognised as you work to make the Christmas period safe and peaceful.

Christmas is of course no holiday for police officers, so we hope that you are able to enjoy what time you do manage to take off.

For those who are working please look after each other and stay safe.

I was able to get out this last week to see many of you around the County and thank you for your hard work as you manage growing workloads, demand and competing priorities.

Your Federation has spent the year standing up for your rights, shining a light on all your good work and working towards positive change for you.

2025 I am sure will again bring with it challenging times with budget cuts where we again We will continue to fight your corner and as always you can reach out to us if you are struggling. We have a 24hr on-call rep available with contact info held in our Force control room (FCR).

We also take a moment this Christmas to remember the colleagues who are no longer with us and wish the families, their friends our thoughts over the holiday period.

Please stay safe and enjoy your Christmas and New Year.

Merry Christmas to you all and we look forward to seeing you all next year.

Your Federation
