Christmas and New Year Message from Elena Boafo, Equality and Wellbeing Lead of Surrey Police Federation
“Surrey Police Federation would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
“This year has been one that we could not have foreseen with a cost-of-living crises and energy price increases that have impacted every single one of us.
“Who would have thought that this is where we would be, where our colleagues have approached the Federation for food vouchers, which we are now authorised to issue on behalf of Epsom & Ewell Foodbank for officers to pick up a package from a Foodbank of their choice. Whether you need their help or not please consider helping your local Foodbank if you can.
“The Police Bravery Awards were held in July celebrating our brave colleagues with a total of 76 nominees from 39 forces honoured at the ceremony. The winner of this year’s Inspiration in Policing award was our own PC Sean Burridge for his essential work on Mental Health and Wellbeing in both Surrey and Sussex, creating the ‘Smash the Stigma’ webinar series on PTSD and setting up the first UK policing PTSD support group. His duty of care and commitment to both Surrey and Sussex, whilst coping with his own mental health struggle, make him and inspiration.
“Pensions claim is going through the court system representing 40,000 officers. Penningtons are acting on behalf of Police Federation of England and Wales and will be sending a survey to officers they need information from regarding the remedy. Any questions or problems, please contact the Policy team on fedhq-policy@polfed.org
“For many of you who are working at Christmas, please stay safe and well and look after one another. Your brilliant Federation reps will be on call and available to you on urgent matters via Force Control. For others not working please grab some well-deserved rest before 2023 which will bring the usual business and more as well as the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles and soon after The Epsom Derby.
“Wishing you all a happy and healthy Christmas with your nearest and dearest, friends and colleagues.”
