A week ahead of the Police and Crime Commissioner elections, the Chair of Surrey Police Federation said she hoped the new PCC would be engaged in the Time Limits campaign, to tackle drawn-out disciplinary investigations.
Last year the Government postponed the election of Police and Crime Commissioners due to the pandemic, so elections are now going ahead on 6 May.
Melanie Warnes, Chair of Surrey Police Federation, said: “I have invited all PCC candidates for Surrey to meet virtually with me. Some have taken up my invitation.
“I already meet regularly with the current Surrey PCC and I would definitely like this to continue with whoever is successful in the elections next week. It is important that there is a good relationship between the Federation and all staff associations with the PCC, as they can speak for all Surrey employees.
“I would recommend that the elected PCC engages fully with the officers of Surrey, is visible to them and takes on board what is important to them. This can be achieved by physically going on patrol with officers, and also through the Federation.
“I would also want the PCC to be engaged with the Time Limits campaign, and hold the local Professional Standards Department as well the IOPC to account for long, drawn-out investigations. I have also spoken about support for funding Specials to be in the Federation. This has received positive responses so far.”
