Teenager jailed for driving straight at police officer

16 July 2018

A 19-year-old man has been jailed for driving his car at a Surrey Police officer.

Ramone Kidd from Sutton pleaded guilty to charges of dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving whilst unfit through drink and drugs and ABH at Guildford Crown Court.

He was sentenced to 23 months in prison.

Police followed and boxed in Kidd’s vehicle as they believed it had been stolen on the A22 last June.

However, he swerved into one of the police cars in an attempt to force it off the road, before trying to reverse out.

Officers then tried to get Kidd out of the car but as Sergeant Chris Schultze made his way round to the driver’s side, Kidd appeared to deliberately drive at him.

Sgt Schultze’s injuries were treated at hospital. Other officers were injured in the incident and they were all praised for their actions in court.

DS Kerry Akehurst, from the Criminal Investigation Department said: “I would firstly like to echo what His Honour Judge Moss said around the professionalism of the officers involved in the incident.

“The role of a police officer is to protect the public, and each day officers put their lives at risk to apprehend suspects and protect the public.

“During this incident, officers attempted to stop the vehicle, and in doing so, three officers received injuries and four police vehicles sustained damage.”
