Budget 2018 - Austerity is 'not over' for the police, says Federation Chair

30 October 2018

Hard working police officers have yet again been overlooked by the Government with potholes being prioritised over policing in the autumn budget says Surrey Police Federation Chair Mel Warnes.

“Funds to the tune of £420m to repair potholes were found by the Chancellor in the autumn budget, with just £160m being allocated to Counter Terrorism policing. No new money was found to pay for frontline policing.

"It will be interesting to see what, if any impact the money invested in the Mental Health Services (£2bn a year) including some to fund Mental Health Ambulances will have on Surrey Police Officers, but austerity does not appear to have ended for the police service.”
