Anger at the announcement of the 2017 police officer pay rise

12 September 2017

The Government has given police officers just a 1% pay rise in 2017.

There will be a 1% one-off bonus on top of this.

The Police Pay Review Body had recommended a consolidated 2% pay rise for all officers in 2017.

“The pay rise is a slap in the face to police officers," said Mel Warnes, Chair of Surrey Police Federation.

“In reality, the 2% pay rise published by the Government is not a 2% pay rise. It is a 1% rise, with a 1% bonus to be taken from existing budgets.

“Dwindling budgets and constant cuts mean it will be difficult to pay these bonus from current Police budgets.

“If the bonus is paid, this will surely only lead to more cuts resulting in added stress and pressures on day to day policing.

“Where is the money going to come from for this?”
