Branch representatives visiting Bury St Edmunds this Wednesday

Representative from Suffolk Police Federation, including branch chair Darren Harris will be visiting Bury St Edmunds tomorrow (Wednesday 26 August).

The visit will provide an opportunity for the Federation’s senior representatives to meet with officers and hear directly about the issues affecting members working at Bury St Edmunds Station.

Darren, along with full-time Federation representative Emma Arthurs will be visiting the team in the wellbeing van, Feels on Wheels, giving officers the opportunity to raise their concerns in a more private setting should they wish.

Speaking ahead of the visit, Darren said: “It’s really important to us that we get out and about and speak directly to our members. Being able to sit down with officers, listen to what they are experiencing and understand the pressures they are facing is a vital part of our role as a Federation.”

Darren said that now more than ever, it is important for the branch to be visible and accessible to members.

He added: “Officers need to know that we are there for them, not just when something goes wrong, but on a day-to-day basis. We want our members to see us, speak to us and know that there is someone there who will listen to them and represent their interests.

Practical support

“We want officers to feel that they can come and have an informal chat with us about anything that is concerning them. Sometimes it can simply be useful to talk something through, while on other occasions there may be issues where the Federation can provide advice, representation or practical support.

“I look forward to meeting our members, and hope that this is the first of many visits I carry out across the county.”

Darren said the visit would also provide an opportunity for members to raise concerns, discuss workplace issues and find out more about the support available through the Federation.

Members are being encouraged to take the opportunity to speak with them during the visit.

Darren and Emma will be at Bury St Edmunds Station from 11am until 2pm.
