Northamptonshire Police Federation chair Sam Dobbs has paid tribute to PC Faizaan ‘Fuzz’ Najeeb on the first anniversary of his death, which falls on the same weekend as this year’s National Police Memorial Day.
Faizaan, who was just 24, died on 26 September 2025, a week after he was critically injured in a road traffic collision.
His first anniversary comes as police officers, families, friends and colleagues from across the UK gather to remember those who have lost their lives in the service of policing at National Police Memorial Day tomorrow (Sunday 27 September).

PC Faizaan ‘Fuzz’ Najeeb
He joined Northamptonshire Police in May 2022 and had served with the Response team in Wellingborough.
Sam said: “A year on, there is still a huge sense of sadness at the loss of Faizaan. For those who knew him, it is impossible to think about his death without also thinking about the young man he was and everything he brought to those around him.
“Faizaan had an energy and enthusiasm for policing that was infectious. He was the sort of officer who wanted to be out doing the job, supporting his colleagues and helping the people he came into contact with. He embraced response policing and took genuine pride in wearing the uniform.
“What makes the loss particularly difficult is knowing just how much more Faizaan had to give. At 24, he was at the very beginning of his policing career and of his adult life. There should have been many more years of experiences, opportunities and memories ahead of him.
“For his family, of course, this anniversary will be incredibly difficult. A year can pass, but the loss of a son and brother does not become any less profound. Our thoughts are with them, and with everyone who continues to feel his absence every day.
“It is also significant that Faizaan’s first anniversary falls during the weekend of National Police Memorial Day. Across the country, families and colleagues will be coming together to remember officers whose lives have been lost through their service, and Faizaan now has his own place among those we remember.”
Sam will be attending this weekend’s service, along with secretary Charlotte Pateman, as well as Deputy Chief Constable Ash Tuckley.
Sam continued: “Faizaan was remembered at Coventry Cathedral last year, just days after his death. It will be a privilege to host his brother and sister at this year’s National Police Memorial Day, alongside other families.”
Sam said that Faizaan’s story also says something important about the police service he chose to join. He added: “Faizaan was a proud Muslim, proud of his family and proud to be a police officer. He did not see those parts of his life as being in conflict. He brought his whole self to policing, and in doing so, he helped challenge assumptions about who can become an officer and what a police officer can look like.
“On this anniversary, we should therefore remember the life as well as the loss. We should remember a young man who chose policing as his profession, cared deeply about his family, enjoyed the job he did, and made an impression on the people fortunate enough to work alongside him.
“This weekend, we remember him with his family, his friends and his colleagues. We remember the officer he was, the person he was and the potential that was taken from him far too soon.”
