Northamptonshire Police Federation chair Sam Dobbs has paid tribute to an officer from the Force who died on this day in 1991.
Acting Sergeant Simon Lilley, who was 30, was in the centre of the road helping with a traffic census on the A5 near Weedon when he was fatally injured after being hit by a motorcyclist who failed to stop when signalled to do so.
“Simon was simply carrying out his duties when his life was so tragically cut short,” says Sam.
“Today we remember him, his service to the Force and his dedication to policing our communities.
“It is important that we honour our fallen colleagues and also the families they leave behind.”
