Northamptonshire Police Federation

Registration still open for Sunday's National Police Memorial Day

24 September 2025

Northamptonshire Police Federation members are being encouraged to attend this year’s National Police Memorial Day (NPMD).

The service takes place at Coventry Cathedral on Sunday (28 September).

It will bring together family, friends and loved ones of officers who have died in the line of duty.

The service will also be attended by serving and retired officers of all ranks, politicians, civic and faith leaders, and members of the public.

Coventry Cathedral

Coventry Cathedral is less than an hour drive from Northampton, making it one of the most accessible NPMDs for Northamptonshire Police officers in recent years.

Federation branch chair Sam Dobbs said: “The National Police Memorial Day service is always incredibly emotional and thought-provoking. It’s one of the most poignant in the policing calendar, and it never fails to move me.

“It is such an important occasion – a chance to honour and remember our colleagues who are no longer with us, but also to stand alongside their loved ones to show they are not alone.

Coventry Cathedral hosts the event.

“This year’s service is being held in the beautiful and fitting setting of Coventry Cathedral, which is less than an hour’s drive from Northampton.

“And with it being so close, I’d encourage members to join us if they can, or to take a moment during the day to remember our fallen colleagues.”

The service will remember and honour the lives of more than 5,000 police officers who have died in service over the past 180 years.

It is set to include processions, music, and readings, and the lighting of candles to represent each of the four nations of the UK.

Registration is now open.

And members can share their memories and messages on the NPMD Tribute Wall, which is now live.
