Northamptonshire Police Federation

A day to honour, remember and stand together

29 April 2025

Northamptonshire Police Federation chair Sam Dobbs has described the National Police Memorial Day as ‘an incredibly moving and emotional occasion’,  and he is urging members to attend this year's special service if they can.

This year's ceremony will take place at the stunning Coventry Cathedral on Sunday, 28 September, and is free for anyone who wishes to attend.

Sam said: "National Police Memorial Day is one of the most powerful and important days in the policing calendar. It’s a time when we come together to honour the memory of more than 5,000 police officers who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty.

“Every year, I am profoundly moved by the deep sense of respect, pride, and emotion that fills the service. It’s also a day to show our unwavering support for families, friends, and colleagues, to remind them that their loved ones’ sacrifice will never be forgotten.

“Coventry Cathedral will provide a truly fitting and beautiful backdrop this year, and with it being so close to us here in Northamptonshire and I would encourage as many of you as possible to join us."

National Police Memorial Day

National Police Memorial Day is a solemn but vital tradition. The service rotates each year between the four nations of the United Kingdom and is always held on the Sunday closest to 29 September - St Michael’s Day - named after the patron saint of policing.

It is a moment when the policing family - serving officers, retired colleagues, families, and friends - stand shoulder to shoulder to remember the bravery and sacrifice of those who gave their lives to protect others.

The online booking system is now open for those who wish to attend. Members are warmly invited to register and be part of a day that means so much to so many.
