Northamptonshire Police Federation

Remembering Acting PS Simon Lilley

4 November 2024

Simon was 30 when he died while helping with a traffic census on the A5 near Weedon in the early evening of 5 November 1991.
Sam Dobbs, chair of Northamptonshire Police Federation, said: “Simon was carrying out his duties, serving our communities when he was killed in this tragic incident. Today we remember his service to the Force and, above all, express our sympathies to his family, friends and former colleagues who continue to feel his loss. Our thoughts are with them.”
Simon was standing in the centre of the road and signalled a motorcyclist to stop but was struck by the machine. The motorcyclist was under the influence of drink and was speeding.
Sam added: “Our thoughts are also with the officer, Simon’s colleague, who attended the incident and was with Simon when he died.”
