Know Your Numbers! Week – do you have high blood pressure?

28 August 2024

Next week sees the 24th anniversary of Know Your Numbers! Week, the annual campaign to encourage people to check their blood pressure.

This year the theme is ‘You Have The Power’.

High blood pressure is a major cause of heart attacks and strokes, but often shows no symptoms until it is too late leading to it being referred to as the silent killer.

Knowing your numbers means you can start making healthy lifestyle changes or start taking medicines if you need them to bring your blood pressure down to a healthy level. So, the power is in your hands to check your blood pressure to see if it’s under control.

Home monitoring is an effective and inexpensive way to keep blood pressure under control and the evidence behind it continues to get stronger. It offers a way for YOU to take control of your health, feel confident, and take the pressure off the NHS at the same time.

This year, Know Your Numbers! Week will encourage everyone to check their blood pressure and find those with undiagnosed and uncontrolled high readings so they can get help.

It will:

  • Encourage the nation to use a simple and reliable monitor to measure their blood pressure at home
  • Encourage them to take the necessary steps if their reading is considered high, and
  • Raise awareness about the risks of high blood pressure.

Police Mutual has also produced a Know Your Numbers factsheet to coincide with this year’s awareness campaign.

Police Mutual offers a range of products and services that are only available to police officers, staff, their families and the wider police family.

It has also published its September factsheets:
