The National Police Memorial Day serves as a reminder of the risks and sacrifices made by officers, says the chair of Gwent Police Federation.
Registration for this year’s event is now open, and Matthew Candy is encouraging members to consider attending.
He said: “The National Police Memorial Day is always a poignant occasion which brings together the policing family to pay our respects to those officers who have died in the line of duty.
“It’s an opportunity for us to take some time to reflect on the sacrifices of officers and their families, and it serves as a reminder of the risks we face every day in doing our jobs.
“It’s also a chance to come together in support of the family, friends, and colleagues of those who have died.”
The National Police Memorial Day service rotates around each of the four countries in the United Kingdom.
It is held on the closest Sunday to 29 September which is St Michael’s Day, the patron saint of policing.
This year’s service takes place at Coventry Cathedral on Sunday 28 September.
The online booking system is now open, and members can register here.
Matthew said: “I’m always proud to represent Gwent Police Federation at the National Police Memorial Day.
“For me, it’s one of the most important days on the policing calendar, and I’d encourage members to attend at least once in their career, if they can.”
