Registration is now open for the Police Unity Tour (PUT) as the cycling event returns for another year.
Held annually, the PUT marks the lives of police officers who have died on duty, as well as acting as a fundraiser for the Care of Police Survivors (COPS) charity, which offers bespoke help to the bereaved families of these officers.
The 13th edition of the event is set to be held from Friday 1 August to Sunday 3 August.
It will put participants from Gwent in the saddle with cyclists from Dyfed Powys, North Wales and South Wales as one Welsh chapter joined together for one common cause.
This year’s planned route for the chapter is to go up through northern Wales and eventually over to Lichfield, Staffordshire – the site of the National Memorial Arboretum, for the traditional COPS Annual Service of Remembrance on the Sunday.
Encouraging involvement in the event was branch chair Matthew Candy, who said: “I would urge any Federation member to join in with this year’s PUT - whether that's by participating or supporting the riders.
“It is a poignant event within policing which never fails to deliver on its promise to bring people together to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
"It's also an opportunity to fundraise for an amazing organisation which works so hard to support the families and loved ones of our fallen colleagues when they need it most.
“As a cycling event, it is also very enjoyable and accessible for varying levels of ability, with the team spirit within the Welsh chapter meaning no participant ever gets left behind.”
PUT participants are usually police officers and staff, though family members and friends of fallen officers have also been known to take part in the journey.
Entry for the 2025 PUT is available to Federation members through online registration and costs a non-refundable fee of £200.
In return, entrants will receive three nights’ accommodation, a Police Unity Tour cycling jersey, a wristband engraved with a fallen officer’s name – which can then be presented to the respective family where possible – and technical support on the road across the weekend.
