Gwent Police Federation

Meet Fed Rep Jamie Jones

19 December 2024

Hello, I'm Jamie Jones, a Response Bronze officer in the eastern part of the force.

Since 2019, I've been a work-based Federation representative. During this time, I've undergone training in various areas, including initial representation, performance and conduct matters, post-incident procedures, and advocacy.

My experience encompasses representing numerous officers in a wide range of matters, from minor performance issues to gross misconduct investigations, including Gross Misconduct hearings. I've also provided crucial support and representation during accelerated misconduct proceedings and misconduct meetings.

I'm committed to providing 24/7 support to our members, undertaking on call duties for urgent calls outside of regular hours, particularly for post-incident procedures (PIPs). This ensures Gwent Federation maintains a constant presence to assist officers in need.

Beyond individual representation, I actively participate in the promotion process, from Sergeant to Superintendent. I represent members and candidates to ensure fairness and transparency, making representations to senior officers when necessary to uphold these principles.

Many officers across the force seek my advice and guidance on a variety of issues, from overtime and shift changes to mileage claims. I've successfully challenged unjustified overtime refusals and ensured strict adherence to regulations.

Senior officers also value my input, often consulting me on proposed changes or initiatives to ensure compliance with regulations and support the effective operation of Gwent Police. By doing this role I can safeguard the rights of our members while facilitating the force's ability to serve our communities.

I'm passionate about promoting the benefits of Federation membership, including our exceptional value-for-money group insurance scheme, accessible to both officers and staff, as well as the new national Police healthcare scheme.

I regularly visit the training school to engage with new student officers, offering them Federation support from the very beginning of their careers and giving them an early face to the fed and someone they can gain early advice from.

Being a Gwent Police Federation representative is a privilege, and I'm proud to serve our members. I look forward to continuing to support you all in the years to come.

Stay safe and thank you for all your hard work.

Jamie
