Temporary Promotion/Salary

Officers who conduct Temporary Promotion Duties should ensure they are aware of the difference between Temporary 'Promotion' and Temporary 'Salary'.

Temporary Promotion

Only those with OSPRE Part 2 or are undertaking NPPF4 (after a successful Promotion Interview) can be temporarily Promoted.

Temporary Salary

If an Officer is requested to cover at the rank above (e.g. PC to PS, PS to Insp), the Officer is required to undertake 46 days of Acting before claiming a Temporary Salary. This is referred to a temporary posting into an Acting role.

Ranks above Inspector

For those ranks above Inspector, Officers can be temporary promoted immediately as there is no NPPF requirement for those ranks.

Claims

Officers should utilise an A19 Claim Form (accessible on Force Intranet) to claim the individual shifts and hours to be claimed for Acting, up until the 46th shift at which point the Officer moves to a Temporary Salary.
