Statement from Steve Martin, Chair of Essex Police Federation, in praise of the dedication of colleagues over recent days and weeks. And how these very same officers have - once again - been let down by the Government when it comes to their pay.
Steve said: "The last few weeks have been a difficult and demanding time for the officers of Essex Police, and I would like to publicly thank them for their professionalism and dedication in ensuring the public remain safe.
"This has come despite numerous acts of violence towards them and misinformation circulating on social media channels questioning their impartiality.
"Colleagues have also been stretched as they diligently work without fear or favour in the investigation and policing of a number of serious, dangerous and tragic incidents.
"Officers have had rest days cancelled and been working extended duties which has an impact on their physical and mental well-being as well as causing disruption to their personal lives, yet they continue to push on and deliver.
"As we enter the summer period, there will undoubtedly be further demand placed on officers - and I would urge them all to look after themselves and each other. Essex Police Federation will continue to work hard making sure that support and help is available, and provided, if needed.
"It is wholly unacceptable that the Government have decided to enter the summer recess without providing these very same hard-working individuals with a decision regarding a 2025/2026 pay award, which once again shows how undervalued and under-appreciated the Police officers of England and Wales are by those in Parliament."
