A POLICE officer who secured justice for abused children and an off-duty officer who helped a distressed woman were among those awarded an Essex Police Chief Constable commendation.
DC Tiffany Jennings’ thorough investigation and ‘outstanding’ support to the families of two abused children saw her commended by Essex Chief Constable BJ Harrington.
PC Toby Wells was off-duty back in January last year when he heard a woman’s screams. Her partner had sadly decided to take his own life, but PC Wells bravely tried to save him. The officer was recognised for his professionalism and dedication by the Chief Constable.
Other officers commended at the ceremony at Essex Police HQ in Chelmsford were DC Lee Winfield, who investigated an organised crime group, and Met Officers PC Pauline Hanlon and DC Chloe Wagstaff who, together with a member of the public, managed to calm a man down who was threatening to set himself on fire.
Both officers were off-duty at the time.
Essex Police Chief Constable BJ Harrington said the officers had all done ‘extraordinary’ things.
“What a fantastic start to the new decade as I congratulate ordinary individuals taking extraordinary steps to help save the lives of others, protect the vulnerable, catch criminals and keep the people of Essex safe,” he said.
“It might be what our officers, staff and volunteers do daily but their actions are courageous and I take great pride in being able to award them.”
“A special well done to the members of the public and off-duty officers who stepped in to support the emergency services in difficult and dangerous situations.”
