An Essex Detective Inspector has been honoured during a special community awards ceremony for ‘going the extra mile’.
Detective Inspector Rob Staples was awarded a Community Service medal at the Epping Forest District Council Civic Awards for going above and beyond the call of duty and showing exceptional devotion to tackling drug and gang related crime.
As well as bringing perpetrators to justice, Rob works closely with the Council’s Community Safety Team to help safeguard those people at risk of exploitation by gangs.
Addressing Rob, Youth Councillor Adam Freeman said: “(Rob’s) talent for leadership and motivation have seen him be promoted to Detective Inspector.
“He is professional and dedicated and has spent his career keeping residents of Epping Forest safe.
“His tenacious determination to bring criminals to justice and to protect the vulnerable is inspiring; He is a first-class example of modern day policing.”
Chairman of Epping Forest District Council and the evening’s host, Councillor David Stallan, said: “Every year we dedicate an evening to celebrate Epping Forest’s resident’s achievements, successes and their unwavering dedication to the area and their communities. This year was no different.
“To the winners and runners up, congratulations. It is people like you that make the world a better place. Thank you for your selflessness, generosity and compassion.”
