Concessionary Rail Travel

Essex Police Concessionary Rail Travel is available to Essex Police Officers only and is available for use on both Greater Anglia and C2C lines.  To be eligible to apply you have to have completed your PPST and have been attested.  To apply for the train concession, you need to complete an application form which can be obtained from Essex Police Federation and submit it to them.  You will then be issued with an Essex Police Travel Card.

The scheme is managed by Essex Police Federation.  If you have any queries relating to this, please contact Essex Police Federation Office on extension 130066 or 01245 219140 or email estherhowitt@polfed.org.

The cost is £35 per month, it is payable via payroll deduction and will show as a deduction on your payslip.  Both the application form and A449 form, once completed, must be emailed to Esther so that arrangements can be made for your Travel Card to be produced.  This can take up to 1-2 weeks. Please make sure you enter a commencement date on this form bearing in mind that cover will always commence on the 1st of the month. There is no reduction for joining part way through the month and the full payment of £35.00 will still have to be made.

By making the appropriate payment via payroll deduction and using the card, you are agreeing to all the terms and conditions stipulated.  May we remind you that you must make a minimum 3 month commitment subject to one months’ notice thereafter and that, once withdrawn, a minimum period of 3 months must elapse before you can re-apply.  Please note that Travel Cards must be returned to the Federation Office, intact when you leave the scheme or Essex Police.

You cannot travel under this Train Concession without your Travel Card AND Warrant Card.

Any Police Officer using this concession are under a positive duty to assist the relevant train operator staff when properly requested to do so.  They are also expected to render such appropriate assistance as the circumstance reasonably dictates when criminal or anti-social behaviour is witnessed.  In these circumstances the officer would be putting themselves on duty and therefore need to be ‘fit’ for duty. If you are intoxicated, you cannot use the Train concession.

If you do not pay into this scheme, you have NO entitlement to concessionary travel.  Should you still use the trains you would be liable to Criminal Prosecution and Misconduct Proceedings.
