Fed sends luck to fundraisers climbing Three Peaks for charity

17 June 2026

Durham Police Federation is proud to support a team of officers and staff as they prepare to take on one of the UK's toughest endurance challenges.

Kicking off tomorrow (Thursday 18 June), more than 20 members of the Force will attempt the National Three Peaks Challenge, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon within 24 hours to raise money for the charity 4Louis.

The challenge has been organised by Sergeant Steve Adey, whose determination to support 4Louis stems from the heartbreaking loss of his daughter, Primrose, in 2019, who died just a week before her second birthday. The charity provides invaluable support to families experiencing the loss of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death and sudden infant death.

And Durham Police Federation has sponsored the team, supporting their efforts to raise vital funds for 4Louis.

Durham Police Federation secretary Phil Stephenson said: "As a Federation, we are here to support our members both professionally and personally. We are incredibly proud to get behind everyone involved in this challenge.

"The National Three Peaks Challenge is a huge undertaking and reflects the commitment, resilience and teamwork that our members demonstrate every day in policing.

Demanding

"Policing can be incredibly demanding, but one of its greatest strengths is the support colleagues provide one another through both the good times and the difficult ones.

"Most importantly, this team is taking on a huge challenge for an outstanding cause that has touched the lives of people within our policing family."

The challenge involves climbing the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales within a 24-hour period. The total walking distance is 23 miles and a total ascent of 3064 metres, plus around 462 miles of driving between the peaks.

The close-knit group, made up largely of officers and staff from Durham Roads and Armed Policing (DRAP), all have a shared determination to make a difference.

Donation

Their fundraising will not only support 4Louis' vital work with bereaved families but also help raise awareness of important road safety messages championed by the team.

This includes the dangers posed by the ‘fatal four’ offences - speeding, drink and drug driving, driving while distracted and failing to wear a seatbelt.

Phil ended: "We hope their efforts inspire people to support their fundraising and help 4Louis continue the important work it does for families during the most difficult of times.

“We wish every member of the team the very best of luck as they take on this incredible test.”
