Durham Police Federation marks successful Response Policing Week

25 April 2026

As Response Policing Week comes to a close, Durham Police Federation has reflected on a week of strong engagement with frontline officers across the Force.

Reinforcing its commitment to visibility, support, and listening to members where they work, Federation representatives have spent the week visiting a range of stations and workplaces.

In addition, workplace representatives supported response shifts in Durham and Darlington, working alongside officers to gain first-hand insight into the pressures of frontline policing.

A key highlight of the week was the Response CPD Day at the Glow Centre, where officers had the opportunity to engage directly with Federation representatives and discuss the challenges they face on duty.

Durham Police Federation vice chair Louise Ramshaw, who spoke at the event, said the week reinforced the importance of being present and engaged with members on the frontline.

“It was a real pleasure speaking at the CPD Day, as part of Response Policing Week, and having the opportunity to engage directly with officers, hear their experiences, and discuss the important work being done across frontline policing,” said Louise.”

The event also featured a range of speakers, including Durham’s workplace representative and deputy health and safety lead Terry Archbold, who delivered an informative session on exploitation.

Officers also showed significant interest in wellbeing initiatives on display, including mentholated nose plugs provided by Nosa, with thanks extended for their continued support.

Challenges

“As a Federation, we are committed to focusing on action as well as recognition,” said branch chair Louise Guest, who has been part of the visits across the county.

“This week has been about spending time with officers in their workplaces, listening to them, and seeing first-hand the realities they face every day. Rest assured, I will be feeding their comments back to the Federation team, and we ensure their voices are heard at all levels of policing.”

The importance of Federation visibility was echoed by workplace representative, Acting Sergeant Jason Tennant, who said: “It was great to see Louise today.

“It’s important to my team that the Federation are visible to speak to officers particularly during this response policing week.

“It’s great that she was able to come and speak to them, understand firsthand the challenges and issues that they are facing and hopefully the Federation will be able to press for change on some of these matters.”
