A Christmas and New Year message from Dorset Police Federation Chair James Dimmack

Christmas and New Year are of course no holiday for police officers and policing.

As we approach the festive period most people are looking forward to finishing work and settling in for Christmas and New Year. For many police officers however they will be preparing for long shifts involving huge demand.

They will also be juggling when they will celebrate with their families as they are required work over the Festive period. This is all part of the job however it should not pass without thanks from those who are protected and served due to this personal sacrifice.

2024 has been a hugely challenging year for Dorset Police.

It has seen unprecedented protests and unrest. Increase in demand compounded by the loss of staff. All on top of what is already a massively challenging occupation. What hasn’t changed is the quality of the people undertaking these roles.

The empathy, tenacity, commitment and determination to get the job done.

The people of Dorset Police are what we are and for everything you do I am truly thankful.

We must not take this for granted however and change must be forthcoming.

At Christmas time the best present we could have is appropriate funding so we can do what we do best Policing.

Please stay safe and ensure you enjoy the festivities on whatever day that might be for you and your families.
