Being a firearms officer is one of UK Policing's toughest jobs. Officers, who volunteer for the role, know the responsibility and accountability that comes with it.
Dorset colleagues will be aware of the issues in relation to the Metropolitan Police. They are only human... what is transpiring will leave them worried as they go about their incredibly difficult and dangerous work.
Police officers have no concerns at being held accountable for their actions - but this oversight must be fair and balanced and take into account the training officers receive and the roles they are lawfully asked to carry out.
Colleagues in Dorset who continue to carry firearms to keep the public and fellow officers safe retain our thanks - and the full support of the Police Federation.
