Pay And Morale Survey Results Come After A Challenging Year

64% of Dorset Police officers who responded to the Police Federation of England and Wales’s Pay and Morale survey are dissatisfied with their pay - and 42% officers said they have low morale.

63% of respondents from Dorset Police felt that they were worse off financially than they were five years ago and 58% of respondents said that they would not recommend joining the police to others.

Dorset Police Federation Chair Anna Harvey has responded to the survey.

Anna said: “This year’s survey results do not tell us something we are not already aware of – police officer pay and conditions are still of a concern.

“This year’s policing has been extremely challenging for officers dealing with the pandemic and the constant changes in guidance and legislation. We know officers have gone above any beyond protecting the public dealing with the minority who have used Covid as a weapon.”

She added: “It is vital that we improve on wellbeing and invest in our people. Officers need to feel supported and to be able to access help when they need it. We are currently working with the Force to enhance the wellbeing provision offered.”

Anna concluded: “I understand officers are extremely busy juggling demand but unfortunately this year we have only had an 18% response rate and I would like this opportunity to remind officers that this survey is vital as it provides an insight on the challenges they are facing.”
