Devon and Cornwall Police Federation Chairman: The new Christmas restrictions are unenforceable

Statement from Andy Berry, Chairman of Devon and Cornwall Police Federation, as the Government changes the law on what people can do this Christmas.

Andy said: “The police are there to enforce the law - but we cannot enforce laws that are unenforceable and in any practical sense the new Christmas restrictions are unenforceable. 

“I would encourage the public to follow the rules but ultimately my members will not be going door to door this Christmas checking on the number of place settings at the table. 

“Officers will be busy dealing with crime, road traffic collisions and protecting the vulnerable. 

“Indeed, the only person who should be going house to house this week is Father Christmas.”
