Devon & Cornwall Police Federation

Post-Incident Procedure (PIP)

Post-Incident Procedure

When a critical incident occurs, the aftermath can be one of the most stressful and challenging experiences for police officers. Whether the incident involves using force, a serious accident or any other high-stakes situation, such as a death, Devon and Cornwall Police Federation is dedicated to providing comprehensive support and guidance to its members during Post-Incident Procedures (PIPs).

We have several PIP-trained officers who offer support 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year. We are here to assist members at every step of the PIP, offering guidance on their legal and procedural rights, while ensuring fair treatment throughout the investigation process.

Additionally, Devon and Cornwall Police Federation collaborates with Trauma Risk Management (TRiM) practitioners to support officers who have experienced traumatic events. TRiM assessments help identify and address stress reactions, promoting mental health and resilience among officers.
