Cumbria Police Federation Announces Detective of the Year

24 June 2025

An officer who works tirelessly to collect the evidence that puts domestic offenders and child abusers behind bars has been named Detective of the Year at the Cumbria Police Federation 2025 Recognition Awards.

DC Faye Huddleston, who works in Furness CID, is passionate about crime investigation.

Her tenacity over the past year has seen a great deal of success in getting cases over the evidential line, especially those concerning domestic abuse and sexual offences.

From March 2024 to March 2025, her detection rate was 37.3%, and for domestic abuse cases, it was 40%. She achieved particularly excellent results in difficult cases including historic rape cases against children, in which the offenders were found guilty in court.

DC Huddleston puts compassion for victims and safeguarding at the heart of what she does; some investigations can be protracted, and her regular contact with victims ensures their ongoing support through this difficult time in their lives.

She regularly works with community teams, child-centred policing and safeguarding teams, and is mindful of the impact that crime has on communities. She has close ties with officers in the community, ensuring that reassurance is provided to the public and maximising evidential opportunities.

In addition, DC Huddleston is a mentor and helps officers who are working towards PIP 2 accreditation. She is patient, caring and understanding, and is always there to support colleagues, even at short notice.

Officers and supervisors alike speak highly of her.

On winning the Award, DC Huddleston humbly said: “I was so shocked and proud. We don’t do it for the recognition, but I think it is nice that with all the hard work that is being done in the office, someone’s thought that my work was good enough for that.”

Cumbria Police Federation Chair Ed Russell said: “Faye is a born detective – she works hard to get brilliant results and helps put criminals behind bars. She has an impeccable attitude to policing and huge compassion for victims.”

DC Huddleston will attend the 2025 Cumbria Police Federation Recognition Awards on Wednesday 25 June. The Cumbria Police Federation Recognition Awards are in association with Axon.

Also sponsoring the awards are The Cumbria Police Group Insurance Scheme, Slater & Gordon, Uniform Mortgages, No1 Copperpot Credit Union, Serve and Protect Credit Union, Accord, National Police Healthcare Scheme, Police Friendly, and Philip Williams.
