There’s just a few days until our annual conference and we’re busy preparing for our most interactive event yet!

As a pivotal event in the policing calendar, it’s our chance to share best practice and debate issues affecting policing and showcase to members, the media, public and politicians what we do.

This year is our first ‘new look’ conference in Birmingham over two days, 16-17 May.  The theme is ‘Protecting the Protectors’ and the agenda will focus on key issues for the rank and file. This encompasses the wide-ranging protection and support issues that officers are currently facing and what the Federation is doing to address these.

The need for better protection for officers assaulted in the course of their duties; for those who volunteer to carry firearms; and for those engaged in police response and pursuit driving will all be covered.  We will also feature the work we are doing in the areas of discipline, performance and improving overall officer welfare.

The Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, will attend as usual as well as the Policing Minister Brandon Lewis along with representatives from other political parties.  Will we also have input from the National Police Chiefs’ Council, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and the Independent Police Complaints Commission to name a few.

Ahead of the event we are holding a #TruePicture day on Monday, 8 May, via Twitter for officers to tell us about the challenges of their last shift - this will help inform the officer welfare session.

There are lots of ways you can get involved - watch online, download the event app and ask questions - further information is available on our dedicated annual conference page
