05 October 2015

The Police Federation of England and Wales has paid tribute to PC David Phillips, of Merseyside Police, who was killed in the early hours of this morning.

PC Phillips was hit by a red Mitsubishi pick-up after it had mounted a central reservation along the A5139 in Wallasey at 2:10am this morning as he tried to stop it. The force has launched a murder investigation.

PC Phillips, 34, was married and had two daughters, aged seven and three years old.
Steve White, chair, Police Federation of England and Wales, said: “We are thinking of the family, friends and colleagues of PC Dave Phillips in Merseyside. It’s incredibly sad news and highlights the very real risks our officers face simply doing their job every day.”
